Walking Together Near Water

Feelings of such subtlety that they seem
As those pale colorations the full moon
Bestows on sea-floes.  Now this sleepiest sheen
Of impalpable conjurations moves
Faintly through the faintest of all breezes,
The fall and fall again of ripples, this
Way and that, which even the featheriest
Feathers of duck or gull find lulling.  Great ease
Soothes our bodies and smoothes the sloping shore,
As twin tides curl the florid estuary,
One physical, yet supersensual,
And one more metaphysical
Than star-lore.  We two are poised in this stream,
Those born of flesh, becoming so much more.
